Bill C 301: An Important First Step In Reforming Canada's Firearms Laws.
The National Firearms Association sees MP Garry Breitkreuz's Bill C-301 as
an excellent first step in repairing Canada's failed firearms control system.
The Conservative Government is being proactive in maintaining amnesties for
firearms owners and resisting demands from the gun control lobby for more
firearms prohibitions. We are proud to support Garry Breitkreuz's bill because
it addresses some of the most pressing excesses of the current firearms
control system.
Canada's firearms control system is excessively and unnecessarily
regulatory. An incredible amount of taxpayer's dollars have been wasted in monitoring
law abiding citizens in support of laws and regulations which the criminal
element ignore. These expenses have been repeatedly identified by the Auditor
General of Canada and the National Firearms Association.
Garry Breitkreuz's Bill 301 is a valiant effort to provide some legislative
relief for Canadian taxpayers and the firearms community of Canada.
Breitkreuz's proposed amendments should reduce the massive costs associated with the
current firearms control system, as well as help limit the bureaucratic and
regulatory excesses that have targeted law abiding individuals.
Canadians know that a much needed replacement for the current Firearms Act
is not possible until the Government introduces comprehensive legislation to
replace the Liberal 1995 Firearms Act, and earlier problematic firearms laws
and regulations.
Canada's National Firearms Association endorses Garry Breitkreuz's Bill
C-301 as a positive and useful step towards that goal, and recommends that the
firearms community of Canada support this worthy effort. Both Garry Breitkreuz
and the Government of Canada should be congratulated for this first step
towards fixing a major problem.
