QUEBEC NAMED IN COURT ACTION OVER ILLEGAL OPERATION OF LONG GUN REGISTRY
NFA President Sheldon Clare announced that Canada’s National Firearms Association has filed in Federal Court in Ottawa to force the destruction of the Quebec portion of the long-gun registry data. Speaking from Prince George, BC, Clare stated that “Enough is enough – the courts have said that this data shall be destroyed and it hasn’t yet happened. Canada’s NFA has a responsibility to make sure that there is accountability for getting rid of this data”.
In its court action, the NFA has allied itself with Shawn Bevins, NFA Executive VP, and boutique l’Archerot Plus, a well known firearms retailer located in Gatineau, Quebec. In addition to the ultimate destruction of the data, other legal and equitable relief is sought, including interim orders, to:
- Allow individual Quebec long gun owners to require the destruction of their records;
- Stop the gathering of additional long gun registry records;
- Remove illegal registration restrictions imposed by the Quebec CFO to Quebec gun dealers.
Executive VP Shawn Bevins speaking in Drummondville added, “The Quebec government thinks that it can break laws without consequence in its fanatical pursuit of private information. Their actions clearly violate the civil rights of the law-abiding public. There are approximately half a million licensed firearms owners in Quebec who are expecting to be treated the same as the rest of
Canada and our efforts are intended to protect the rights and freedoms of Quebec’s law-abiding firearms owners”.
Canada’s National Firearms Association is this country’s largest advocacy organization promoting the rights and freedoms of all responsible firearm owners and users.
