Open Ranges Too, Premier Ford!

Premier Doug Ford has reopened golf courses as part of an amendment made to the Ontario stay at home order. Firearm ranges were not included in this amendment.  NFA President Sheldon Clare joined NFA Directors Jordan Vandenhoff and Rick Igercich in calling upon Premier Doug Ford to reopen all outdoor firearms ranges.

“If golf courses are open there is no reason whatsoever that firearms ranges should remain closed,” said NFA President Sheldon Clare, “Ranges are places at which all requirements for social distancing can easily be maintained.”  Rick Igercich added, “Ranges have plenty of space and provide an important and welcome place for people to engage in activities which may be both recreational and work related.”  Jordan Vandenhoff stated, “It’s not reasonable to have golf courses open, and firearm ranges closed – the level of Covid risk at both locations is clearly minimal.  People need their freedom.”

“Premier Ford needs to be consistent, and from our perspective leaving ranges closed with golf courses open doesn’t make sense.  Hopefully Premier Ford will likewise open up firearm ranges and those businesses that support them as he has done for golf courses,” concluded Sheldon Clare.

Canada’s National Firearms Association is this country’s largest and most effective advocacy organization representing the interests of firearms owners and users. Canada’s National Firearms Association is the largest Canadian organization fighting for the rights of Canadian firearms users.  NFA is a registered UN NGO with consultative status to ECOSOC.

*Update:

It appears that Premier Doig Ford opened up parks and playgrounds but not golf clubs, or shooting ranges. Regardless, the NFA is still putting pressure onto the Ontario government to re-open firearm ranges as there is no evidence of high transmission rates of covid-19.
