2026 National Range Day — Vermillion Gun Club

Shootout in Grizzly Bear Coulee was a huge success!

On Saturday, June 6, 2026 — National Range Day — Vermillion Gun Club in Alberta hosted another fantastic Cowboy Action Shooting event. Under beautiful blue skies, shooters enjoyed a full day of safe, fun, and challenging cowboy-style competition.
Dwayne Gorniak, Alberta’s National Firearms Director and President of the club, was on site and was happy to welcome and give a special heartfelt thank you to Garth Rowswell, MLA for Vermilion-Lloydminster-Wainwright, for taking the time to attend and support the event at his local range. Your presence and continued support for responsible firearm owners and our shooting sports community means a great deal to all of us.

Thank you to everyone who came out, volunteered, and helped make the day a success. Days like this are what our club is all about — safety, camaraderie, and preserving our shooting heritage.

We should also take this opportunity to note that, because of the Liberal government’s Bill C-21, Cowboy Action Shooting is now on a path toward extinction in Canada. The so-called ‘handgun freeze’ functions as a ban in slow motion, preventing new participants from entering the sport and making its long-term survival impossible.

Unless this legislation is reversed, events like these will become rarer with each passing year until they disappear altogether.
