Before he ever set foot in the corridors of Parliament Hill, Tom Mavin had already built a career defined by evidence, precision, and service. A retired Detective Sergeant with the Waterloo Regional Police Service, Tom spent more than 30 years in law enforcement—21 of them in the Forensic Identification Branch, where he became an expert in firearms examination, shooting reconstruction, and bloodstain pattern analysis.

As an expert witness in both the Ontario Court of Justice and the Superior Court, Tom’s analyses helped shape the outcomes of countless criminal investigations and trials. His dedication to truth and accuracy earned him recognition across Canada’s forensic community, and his published research continues to be referenced.

When Tom retired from policing, his commitment to evidence and integrity didn’t end—it simply took on a new form. Today, as the Ontario Director and Federal Lobbyist for Canada’s National Firearms Association, he applies the same investigative discipline to the political landscape.

In just one year, Tom has completed over 50 registered lobbying communications— ten times the average lobbyist, and a level of engagement rarely seen, especially in the firearms portfolio. From briefing parliamentarians to dissecting legislative impacts, his mission is clear: to ensure that firearms policy in Canada is guided by facts, not fear.
