In Search Of: A ‘Modern’ SKS, Canadians at SHOT Show 2026

The Liberal government and the anti-firearms lobbyists insist there’s a new “Modern SKS” with “assault-style type” capabilities (Their words, not ours). So we commissioned our bravest, most intrepid explorer, Tom Mavin – CNFA Lobbyist and Ontario Director, to hunt for this dangerous mythical creature at Shot Show 2026 in Las Vegas. Spoiler Alert.

Thousands of exhibitors. Tens of thousands of guns. Zero “Modern SKSs.” Turns out, a 70-year-old surplus rifle with a cosmetic stock swap is still… a 70-year-old surplus rifle. Either way, they’re going to try and ban it.
