UNBANNED?! Sterling Arms R9 – Taccom 2026
The R9 was banned. Sterling Arms International wasn’t willing to just accept it.
In this interview, the President of Canada’s National Firearms Association, Blair Hagen talks with the President of Sterling Arms International, Mike Scott, to discuss the RCMP’s classification of the company’s extremely popular R9 pistol-calibre carbine – and what happened when Sterling Arms International pushed back.
The R9’s classification has raised serious questions about the reasoning behind the RCMP’s decision. Sterling Arms pursued those questions directly, challenging the basis for the re-classification and pressing the RCMP for answers. And now, things may be changing.
If the R9 returns to a non-prohibited classification, however, that creates an entirely new set of questions:
What happens to the people who already own one? How much weight should an RCMP classification carry when apparently looking at pictures is enough to form their decision? And what does this mean for other firearms that have potentially been classified the same way?
This is a fascinating look at the R9, the classification process, and what happens when a Canadian firearms manufacturer decides to challenge the system rather than simply accept the outcome. Watch the full conversation and hear it directly from Sterling Arms International.
