As parliament prepares for its holiday break, the NFA was actively engaged in Ottawa with federal policymakers to advocate for clear, balanced, and evidence-based firearms policy. , who maintains the most active and consistent firearms advocacy presence on Parliament Hill ( Monthly communication reports can be found here: Registry of Lobbyists ), represented Canadian firearms owners throughout the week.

During our time in the capital, the NFA had the distinct opportunity to meet with senior representatives from Public Safety Canada — making us the only firearms-focused organization (other than government-contracted groups) to receive a formal briefing. In those discussions we:

-Received insights directly from Public Safety on their current planning for the new Firearms Advisory Committee, as well as the recently announced ‘Review of Firearms Classification’, new initiatives that need to be carefully monitored and kept in check.

-Were afforded the chance to present our policy recommendations, including constructive suggestions for the committee’s mandate, members, and effective functioning.

-Shared candid feedback on actions taken to date, including our multiple criticisms in a professional and fact-based setting.

These substantive dialogues underscore that evidence-driven engagement is essential to building mutual understanding and shaping policy outcomes that respect lawful firearms ownership. Something not seen for some time in Ottawa, and that was made known.

In addition to the Public Safety briefing, NFA representatives met with numerous Members of Parliament to provide educational materials and subject-matter insights on the operational realities and impacts of firearms bans and related regulatory measures.

Among those we met with were:

-Arnold Viersen (Peace River—Westlock, Alberta) — a long-serving Conservative MP representing a large rural Alberta constituency and a strong voice on rural and rights-focused issues in the House of Commons.

– (Oshawa, Ontario) — the newly elected Conservative MP for Oshawa, actively involved in public safety and national security policy discussions.

– (Calgary Heritage, Alberta) — Conservative MP and former foreign policy advisor, representing Calgary Heritage.

– (Prince George—Peace River—Northern Rockies, British Columbia) — a Conservative MP whose riding includes significant rural and sporting communities.

– (Miramichi—Grand Lake, New Brunswick) — newly elected Conservative MP for Miramichi—Grand Lake, representing New Brunswick.

– (New Tecumseth—Gwillimbury) Joint Chair of the Standing Joint Committee for the Scrutiny of Regulations.

We also spoke with other MPs, including several who have recently been involved in parliamentary efforts related to firearm policy in the Maritimes.

Throughout these meetings, the NFA shared detailed educational material and expert insight that clarified misconceptions of the effects of current and proposed firearms regulations. The feedback from policymakers has been positive, with many acknowledging a deeper understanding of the issues following our discussions.

These engagements — respectful, informative, and grounded in factual expertise — demonstrate how thoughtful advocacy can bridge knowledge gaps and influence the policy conversation in Ottawa. The NFA remains committed to ongoing dialogue with lawmakers and stakeholders to ensure that future firearms policy reflects both public safety and the rights of lawful firearms owners.

We were also clear in outlining how misguided policy choices have resulted in lawful firearms owners — hunters, sport shooters, and collectors — being disproportionately targeted and penalized, despite having no connection to criminal misuse of firearms. Bringing this reality directly to the individuals voting on firearms legislation is critical, and these conversations helped ensure that the real-world consequences of these bans are no longer ignored – In short, it was a good week, but remember, we cannot do it without your support. Please help us keep up the fight –
